What is double-dipping?
‘Double-dipping’ refers to when a customer earns multiple rewards from different loyalty schemes from a single purchase. This can happen when both the customer and the merchant are enrolled in multiple loyalty programmes. For example, if a coffee shop is participating in Loyalty Program A and Loyalty Program B, a customer could potentially reap rewards from both loyalty programs with a single purchase of coffee.
How double-dipping is handled at Fidel
Double-Dipping is monitored closely at Fidel. Less than 1% of all transactions through Fidel are double-dipped, so it doesn’t currently present a major issue for our partners. However, if you are concerned about double-dipping, we advise merchants and loyalty programs to work together to decide which program funds should be allocated to. As the relationship is between the merchant and the loyalty program, Fidel does not have the right to choose which loyalty program should receive the funds of a double-dipping customer.
Fidel will continue to monitor double-dipping on all of our transactions and if we notice a significant amount of double-dipping activity, we’ll alert our customers.
